That where wed start but it might be better than that

The usual. How important was it to get the baseline V6-auto official fuel consumption figure to 10.9L100km, considering it is now identical to the Ford Falcon XT? I think given that we have now got there, pretty damned good and pretty critical. It the old $19,990 or $19.99 trick. If you look at 11 and you go to 10.9 it 0.1 of a litres. Work it out and it actually 50 litres in 50,000km. So $70. So who gives a continental? But psychologically it is good. What about V8? Is there a chance youll look at a smaller capacity option than the 6.0-litre you currently offer? We havent really thought about it. There is a 5.3 available, but that might have the same issues as the 2.8-litre V6, simplysacrifising performance without tangible economy gains. Where are you at on the alternatives to traditional petrol engines turbo-diesel, displacement on demand for the V8 and hybrid V6s. Theyre all in the future, but not July 06. Displacement on demand (or Active Fuel Management in GM-speak Editor) is available. It came along very late in the program but we werent comfortable with what it meant from a noise and vibration point of view and trying to develop it for this point of time. That should give you the sense we are working on it but not for today. It one thing to get the thing to run on four cylinders another thing to do it without rattling your teeth and all those sorts of things. So we have some work to do. The US isnt that far ahead of us, they probably have it in a few trucks, but we are probably the first in the corp doing passenger cars and it is proving difficult. But we are definitely working on it. Is it a chance to be seen in this generation of Commodore, given its lifecycle is likely to be six rather than the traditional eight to nine years? I think it will be in this architecture, yes. The problem for Holden with diesel seems to be that GM Rosetta Stone German cupboard is pretty bare? We are waiting for them to come up with one. It will come from VM (VM Motori Italian diesel engine manufacturer) and Im thinking it will be a V6 of around 3.0-litres in capacity. I havent seen it and as far as I know we havent had access to it yet. What we have done up till now has been with a German manufacturer (BMW) which has sold engines to Opel and that way we have got the entr2;e. But very expensive programs. So the BMW avenue cant fly? Not in the current circumstances no. I think we would have to have absolutely no hope on the GM front and petrol would have to be a bit more expensive I suppose. Do you need an export component to a diesel program to get it up and running? The type of market we export too in the main couldnt give a continental about diesel because their petrol is about 30c per litre. Wed have to justify it on domestic and I think we could, given we are pretty good at getting programs up with 5000 to 10,000 volume. That where wed start but it might be better than that. It would be a good car. Wed do some ute, it would have been good for Adventra, people always said that what it lacked. Would the diesel be due to arrive with the utility toward the end of 07? No, I dont think we could do it in that timeframe given where we are right now. What about hybrid. Is it a chance for this generation? Gee, that a hard one to predict. It a chance, I think it a good chance But it will be in the second half of the cycle, whatever the cycle of this one is. We know it won't be nine years though. We dont have that luxury of that anymore, given the outputs of the Mazdas and Hondas and that is what we are up against.
