The first mayoral election was held in 1977

From 1871 to 1977 the council had no mayor and was controlled directly by the Rosetta Stone Arabic departmental prefect, so that Paris had less autonomy than any village. The national government, worried by memories of the uprisings of 1789 (the French Revolution), 1848 (the Revolution of 1848), and 1871 (the Commune of Paris), wanted to keep power from the Paris populace. A statute passed in 1975, however, permitted the councillors once again to elect their own mayor. The mayor now has the same status and powers as mayors in other French towns. The first mayoral election was held in 1977. In 1982 a ward system was introduced, whereby each of the 20 arrondissements was given its own mayor and local council. In practice, however, real control remains in the hands of Paris's mayor.Municipal servicesThe city's telephone services and electricity and gas utilities are run by national concerns. Rosetta Stone Arabic The state operates the fire departments and the police, which are part of the Police Nationale. In addition to dealing with crime, traffic, and public order, the Paris police register vehicles and drivers; issue passports, identity cards, and aliens' residence permits; and conduct political surveillance. One of their main challenges has been the growing wave of crime, particularly terrorism. Special police agencies include detective and counterespionage services and the State Security Police (Compagnies Rpublicaines de Scurit), used for dispersing demonstrations. The Republican Guard (Garde Rpublicaine), a mounted squadron of spurred, helmeted, plumed, and breast-plated guardsmen armed with sabres, is used for ceremonial occasions such as visits by foreign heads of state.HealthThe public hospitals and hospital groups Rosetta Stone Japanese in Paris are run jointly by the city and the national health ministry and are financed largely by a social welfare system.

Jefferson then commissioned Meriwether Lewis

In this post, Jefferson clashed with U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Rosetta Stone Spanish Alexander Hamilton (1755/57-1804) over foreign policy and their differing interpretations of the U.S. Constitution. In the early 1790s, Jefferson, who favored strong state and local government, co-founded the Democratic-Republican Party to oppose Hamilton's Federalist Party, which advocated for a strong national government with broad powers over the economy. In the presidential election of 1796, Jefferson ran against John Adams and received the second highest amount of votes, which according to the law at the time, made him vice president.Jefferson ran against Adams again in the presidential election of 1800, which turned into a bitter battle between the Federalists and Democratic-Republicans. Jefferson defeated Adams; however, due to a flaw in the electoral system, Jefferson tied with fellow Democratic-Republican Aaron Burr (1756-1836). The House of Representatives broke the tie and voted Jefferson into office. In order to avoid a repeat of this situation, Congress proposed the Twelfth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which required separate Cheap Rosetta Stone Spanish voting for president and vice president. The amendment was ratified in 1804Jefferson Becomes Third U.S. PresidentJefferson was sworn into office on March 4, 1801; his was the first presidential inauguration held in Washington, D.C. (George Washington was inaugurated in New York in 1789; in 1793, he was sworn into office in Philadelphia, as was his successor, John Adams, in 1797.) Instead of riding in a horse-drawn carriage, Jefferson broke with tradition and walked to and from the ceremony. One of the most significant achievements of Jefferson's first administration was the purchase of the Louisiana Territory from France for $15 million in 1803. At more than 820,000 square miles, the acquisition (which included lands extending between the Mississippi River and Rocky Mountains and the Gulf of Mexico to present-day Canada) effectively Rosetta Stone Spain Spanish doubled the size of the United States.

The Strokes: Elegantly Wasted

Below is an excerpt of an article that originally appeared in RS 935 from November Rosetta Stone V3 13, 2003. This issue and the rest of the Rosetta Stone archives are available via Rosetta Stone Plus, Rosetta Stones premium subscription plan. If you are already a subscriber, you can click here to see the full story. Not a member? Click here to learn more about Rosetta Stone Plus.He is supposed to arrive at 9 P.M. When he shows up, it is well after midnight. But he will make up for it by spending the next seven hours and forty-five minutes with me. Not because he likes me or doesnt like me. Just because that is what he does. His name is Julian Casablancas, and if he werent a rock star, hed be the neighborhood drunk with a heart of gold. The lead singer of the Strokes, New Yorks finest purveyors of coolly detached retro-rock-boogie, is blessed with the ability to talk shit. He can hold forth all night, run around in verbal circles Rosetta Stone Software for fifteen minutes, lose his place and then start all over again. He doesnt seem to have anywhere to be. He is in the moment. He doesnt even own a cell phone, a computer or a watch. But his intentions are the noblest. "Doing heroin is like walking around with a terrorist as your friend," he tells a buddy who has started sniffing the dust. Casablancas cautionary monologue lasts twenty rambling, heartfelt minutes, slurred with his lips two inches away from his friends. "Its like taking a terrorist around to parties," he continues. "You never know when its going to blow up on you." Casablancas is wearing a green work shirt with the words U.S. Garbage company over the pocket, and faded black pants. The shirt is the property of his roommate, Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. On his wrist, there are three fraying colored Rosetta Stone Korean wristbands that he has not bothered to remove — one from a Kings of Leon concert a week ago, another from a Stooges show two weeks ago and a third from a Vines show from who knows when.

Phish Capture Famous Live Vibe on New Summer Album Joy

Rosetta Stones David Fricke recently spoke with the reunited Phish to get the story Rosetta Stone V3 behind the Vermont quartets comeback album, which RS can exclusively report will be titled Joy.Three weeks after their triumphant three-night reunion concerts at Virginias Hampton Coliseum in March, the band and producer Steve Lillywhite spent three weeks in New Yorks Chung King Studios, mapping out the 10-song album and recording all the basic tracks live in the studio. Joy "feels more like a live record than a lot of our live records," guitarist Trey Anastasio tells RS.Many of Joys songs have already become live staples on Phishs reunion trek, and they unleashed new gems during both of their headlining Bonnaroo sets. Fans are already connecting to the Lynyrd Skynyrd-flavored "Kill Devil Falls," "Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan" and the epic 13-minute closer "Time Turns Elastic," which the band released as a digital Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 download in May. According to Anastasio, "Time" took 278 takes to get the song right, as Lillywhite forced the band to nail down all 15 sections of Anastasios prog-rock closer.”I wanted every member to play every section perfectly," Lillywhite said.Lyrically, much of Joy draws from Anastasios struggles with drugs and his return from a 2006 arrest for possession. The albums title track was written when Anastasios sister was fighting cancer earlier this year (she died in April). Still, Trey insists that the titles message "is affirming with a dose of reality." For much more on Joy, which Lillywhite calls "the best Phish album ever," be sure to check out Frickes full report from the studio in the new issue of Rosetta Stone, on stands now. ABs music is so much more technically AND emotionally inspired. I feel like the AB guys Rosetta Stone Spanish V3 just committed credibility suicide.

Prince Teams With Target to Release Three New Albums as 11.99 Bundle

Princes reluctance to release music through a major label wont prevent him from teaming up Rosetta Stone V3 with a major retailer. The singer has inked an exclusive deal with Target to release all three of his new albums as one three-disc set starting March 29th. The package will bundle both Princes guitar-heavy Lotusflow3r and funky MPLSound with Elixir, the debut album by his newest protg, Bria Valente. While these big exclusive deals with retailers are partially the reason why there wont be any more Virgin Megastores come September, its hard to complain at the price: Target will offer the three-album bundle for the recession-friendly price of $11.99. So even if you had no interest at all in Elixir, because you probably didnt, youre still only paying $11.99. The Prince deal catapults Target into the retailers battle over exclusive music, giving them a name as big as Walmarts AC/DC Black Ice or Eagles Long Road Out of Eden and Best Buys ill-fated Chinese Democracy release. So why Target? The press release announcing the partnership gives one big clue: the "Minneapolis-based Target Corporation" is run out of the Purple Ones beloved hometown."Prince has long been renowned as one Cheap Rosetta Stone Software of the worlds most original and iconic musical artists," said Mark Schindele, Targets senior vice president of merchandising. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share his most recent work with our Target guests." Prince also plans to release a whole slew of extras via a membership to his recently launched Lotusflow3r Website, which currently features a song from each of the new albums, photos of Valente and a link to Rock Dailys report from Princes Oscar Party. Prince also recently allowed Rock Daily into his awesome Los Angeles mansion to preview the new albums. I think the reason to start with Escobar was that he had these guys who have been doing this stuff for 25 years. His first hip-hop mentor, Jam Master Jay, was killed execution-style last year. The women were like, "Get away," and the men Rosetta Stone Greek were like, "Dyke, whore, slut."

Dave Matthews, Jay-Z, Weiland Step Up Obama Support

With this being the second-to-last weekend before Election Day, the music world is gearing Rosetta Stone V3 up its support for Barack Obama. First, Dave Matthews and his frequent collaborator Tim Reynolds will play a free show, dubbed the "Last Chance for Change", in Richmond, Virginia. Tickets are available at a first-come, first-serve basis Obama campaign offices in both Richmond and Charlottesville, which was the birthplace of the Dave Matthews Band. Jay-Z will continue his string of Obama benefit shows with a free rally and concert in Cleveland, Ohio on October 29th. Another "Last Chance for Change" show, Jigga will be joined by LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers at the event. And just in case Obama needed the support of the swing Stone Temple Pilots bloc, Scott Weiland announced that hes supporting the Democratic candidate for president. "Barack Obama is the leader, the listener and the visionary with international respect to take us from the depths of where we are today and bring us to a new place where dreams are made; that place is called America," Weiland said on his website. Lastly, Obama will finally make his long-awaited appearance at Chicagos Grant Cheap Rosetta Stone Software Park, the site of the Lollapalooza festival, for a rally on the evening of Election Day, November 4th. With early predictions estimating a crowd of 100,000+, Obama is expected to draw more people to the park than Radiohead, Kanye West and Nine Inch Nails manage to draw this past summer. The promoter then sends the packet to the Ministry of Culture, the agency that issues licenses to events. "China wants to be part of the modern world, and they dont want to be seen as prohibiting international talent," says one promoter, who spoke anonymously for fear of reprisals. "On the other hand, they want to maintain control over what sort of talent is promoted."Some acts, like Linkin Park and NIN, were cleared with no problems. But an attempted Jay-Z concert in 2006 was nixed over concerns about vulgar lyrics. That same year, the Stones had to cut four songs from their set, including "Lets Spend the Night Together" and "Honky Tonk Women." Even if an act is approved, the government is never far behind. Before NINs performance last fall, an official asked Trent Reznor Rosetta Stone Arabic V3 not to mention Tibet. Lavigne was asked "politely, but very firmly," says her manager Terry McBride not to swear onstage when she played Shanghai last year.

Smokey Robinson: Meet the Reigning Genius of the Top 40

Below is an excerpt of an article that originally appeared in RS18 from September Rosetta Stone V3 28, 1968. This issue and the rest of the Rosetta Stone archives are available via Rosetta Stone Plus, Rosetta Stones premium subscription plan. If you are already a subscriber, you can click here to see the full story. [link to benefits page].Smokey Robinson is the reigning genius of Top 40. Since the Beatles and the Beach Boys dropped out of the single-then-follow-up-album pattern aimed at the AM teenage listener, William "Smokey" Robinson has had the field to himself. The lead singer of the Miracles, writer of almost all their material and that of many Motown groups, a prolific producer, and a vice president and charter member of the Motown Corporation, Smokey is what DJs call with gushing enthusiasm, "an all around entertainer." He is a combination Sam Cooke, Paul McCartney, Lieber and Stoller, and George Martin. But no one has done it all as well and as long as Smokey, and none with quite his style and easy grace. Now 27, Smokey (known as "Smoke" to intimates) has been writing and singing since Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 he did a tune for a first grade skit in which he played Uncle Remus. He wrote poetry as a kid too, but dropped it in junior high when he started the Miracles as a street corner harmonizing group. He and his group — Bobby Rogers, Ronnie White, Pete Moore, Claudette Rogers, and Claudettes brother who left not long after — were then 12 years old and they are still together. Aretha Franklin was a neighborhood friend too and they grew up hearing the blues and gospel, but successful black music then was the multi-voiced sweet sound of groups like the Penguins, the Platters, the Drifters, and Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers. Thats the sound Smokey wanted. In 1957 the Miracles got their first audition. "We auditioned for this guy, but he didnt like us," Smokey said recently, "with me and Claudette (shes my wife now), he wanted us to be like Mickey and Sylvia. But Berry Gordy, Jr., was there — he was doing pretty good then writing songs for people like Jackie Wilson and Etta James — and afterwards he called us over and asked to see our songs. We had a book of about 100 I had written, and he liked only one, but he didnt just say the rest were garbage. I must of went through 68 of those songs with this cat and on every one Id say, Whats wrong with this one? and hed say, Well, you left off this or you didnt Rosetta Stone Spanish V3 complete your idea on that, which really started me to think about songs and what they were.

Moore improvised lyrics for Santorini, which was an instrumental, giving the track an added urgency and pathos. Beck and Moores Santorini, which vocally could pass for a Sonic Youth song if not for the gleeful contemporary instrumental music in the background, also cuts a full four minutes off of Yannis original version. This isnt the first time Beck and Sonic Youth have collaborated: For last years Record Store Day, the two former DGC artists split a 7 on which Beck covered Evols Green Light and Sonic Youth performed Mellow Golds Pay No Rosetta Stone Software Mind. Beck is also rumored to have recorded a full acoustic version of Sonic Youths Evol.As Rosetta Stone Beck has reinterpreted Velvet Underground and Niko andSongs of Leonard Cohenwith Devendra Banhart and MGMT, Oar with Wilco and Feist andKickwith St. Vincent and Liars. Bon Jovi, CSN, Mraz and Jones Join Songwriters Hall of Fame

"On a night like this, it comes back to one thing: the power of the pen," Bon Jovi told Cheap Rosetta Stone Rosetta Stone before his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame last night in New York City. "If you write one song that comes across decades, youre lucky. If you write a body of them and youre recognized in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, its prestigious." The organizations 40th induction ceremony was a celebration of the individuals behind such time-spanning hits, with an eclectic group of honorees that also included Crosby, Stills and Nash, Jason Mraz and Sir Tom Jones.Bon Jovi and longtime collaborator/bandmate Richie Sambora celebrated their induction with a fiery "Wanted Dead or Alive" after Daughtry honored them with a rocking "Ill Be There For You." James Taylor was on hand to perform a medley of Crosby, Stills and Nashs "Long Time Gone," "Love the One Youre With" and "Teach Your Children" before inducting the trio, who handled their acceptance with humor (said Stills, "I have to thank all the great women who dumped me and all the dumb politicians that did things that [inspired me] to write songs") before delivering a gorgeous "Helplessly Cheap Rosetta Stone Software Hoping."Past honoree Rob Thomas presented Jason Mraz with the Hal David Starlight Award. "I hate you," Thomas joked. "Youve ruined the curve for everybody. Youre kind of young, and youre cute and youre just too talented and I think you should stop." A visibly touched Mraz choked up while thanking the crowd. "I thought that songwriting either makes you spiritual or a crazy person, and if its not doing either one of those things then youre doing it wrong. Im honored to feel like Im doing it right." he said before performing an inspired version of "Im Yours."American Idol judge and songwriter Kara DioGuardi presented Tom Jones with the Howie Richmond Hitmaker Award. There was no plan back then

We were looking to be professionals at making records and he was a professional. It Cheap Rosetta Stone just really sparked.""The Magic Number"Posdnous: "At that point, we were still trying things in Mases house, just having fun with records. [Schoolhouse Rocks] Multiplication Rock was a record we just had and we were already in love with History of the Hip-Hop I record from Tommy Boy, where Double Dee and Steinski had the beat that was up top there, so we decided to just put those two together on our little Casio machine."Trugoy: "There was no plan back then. It was just putting songs together and placing them where they belonged. Obviously three of us in the group, 3 is the magic number became the philosophy, but mostly, it was just a song that we loved and it became part of the album.""Change in Speak"Posdnous: "There was a record I found that had a whole bunch of great songs from the Mad Rosetta Stone V3 Lads on it. Then we just decided to put the Bra song from Cymade on it, we just started mashing things. We all worked together really well as a foursome, just trying to add different things.""Cool Breeze on the Rocks"Posdnous: "Honestly, I cant even remember why we decided to make that collage in the first place. When we started, it was just so cool to try to do it, like, Yo, how bout "Rocket in the Pocket"— everyone was just trying to scroll through their mind for any song that said rock in it. Everyone came to the studio with a different album, whether it was a rap album, a rock album, Michael Jackson."Trugoy: "We werent thinking legalities at that time. We were just thinking about putting good music together, and although there was a process — even at that time, we did have clear samples, and turn in Rosetta Stone Spain Spanish information — but our label didnt think that really had to clear the samples because they only expected the album to sell a couple of thousand anyway.""Can U Keep a Secret"Posdnous: "That song is a testament to a lot of the stuff we did in the studio in that it wasnt planned out as a song."Trugoy: "That was just another high moment. And a lot of people there. We had 15 or more people at our sessions at all times and we were always thinking, Lets utilize voices, lets utilize personalities. ""Jenifa Taught Me"Posdnous: "The original record was one of my fathers, Soupy [by Maggie Thrett], some old doo-wop record. It was definitely Paul who came with the Liberace cassette with Chopsticks. " "Ghetto Thang"Mase: "We had Ghetto Thang as an idea for a long time. We had that tune on the keyboard — "Trugoy: "It was one of Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 those times in Mases den on Smith Street where we always sat there and created ideas and Mases mom would come into the den having juice and cookies for us." [All laugh]Mase: "I gotta get out of here."

Animal Collective's Panda Bear Reinvents His Sound on New Album

Lucy Johnston/Redferns Its hardly obvious at first listen, but Animal Collectives Rosetta Stone Noah Lennox, a.k.a. Panda Bear, intended his third fourth solo record to be a guitar attack.I wanted to do something simple and powerful,he says. But the end product is more like an attack on his guitar, which Lennox warped into various unrecognizable forms metallic burbles, echoey madness, church-organ-like resonance by playing it through a synth module.Lennox, the driving force behind two of the past decades most influential records his 2007 solo record, Person Pitch, and Animal Collectives 2009 breakthrough Merriweather Post Pavilion talked with Rosetta Stone about the creative process behind his solo release, Tomboy, due April 12th. (Listen to two tracks from the album, "Slow Motion" and "Tomboy," below.)Why were you interested in returning to the guitar on Tomboy?I think I just hadnt done it in a Rosetta Stone V3 while, so I thought it might force me to write different types of songs, and it did. But using the samplers and strictly electronic means to write songs, I just started to feel like I was writing the same song over and over again. At some point you said you were into the idea of less sampling you even said you were thinking about Nirvana and White Stripes and that kind of immediacy. Did any of that survive onto the final version of the album?I would guess that for somebody just listening to it, they wouldnt really see that corollary at all. But stopping the sampling was kind of an easy way out of not doing a Person Pitch, part two which I really didnt wanna do.Video: Live from ATP: Animal Collective, "My Girls"Recording the album took longer than you expected, right? It just kept expanding. At first I was really Rosetta Stone Hindi shooting for it to come out in September, and that was sort of on the tail-end of touring with the Merriweather songs, and Im not going to blame that, but trying to pull double duty I think pushed me back a little bit. Then just wanting to make sure things were as good as they could be, I think made it take a little bit longer. Were you already working on these songs at the same time as you were working on Merriweather stuff?I was definitely thinking about it. Even when we were recording the Merriweather stuff, I was already kind of considering songs, parts of songs. I would just kind of jam on the guitar, singing sometimes, before I even started writing songs, kind of just seeing if I could come up with little parts here and there really kind of like scrapbook style. And then when I really started Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 sitting down to write songs, I would often go through these little pages of stuff to see if there were little parts in any of those things that I thought I could make a song out of.

Janis Joplin's Full-Tilt Boogie Ride: Rosetta Stone's 1970 Cover Story

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky Janis Joplin and her newly formed band, Janis Joplin Full-Tilt Rosetta Stone Boogie, debuted here June 12th, their first gig since they started rehearsing together a month and a half ago. Freedom Hall, where the concert took place, is a monster indoor stadium designed for wrestling matches and basketball games, the kind of place that looks empty even when its full to capacity. With an audience of about 4000, it looked pretty sad. To make matters worse, the crowd, mostly younger kids in neat hippy/mod threads, did not look like Janis crowd.Classic Photos of Janis Joplin From the air, Louisville is like a letter dropped from a giant alphabet, a T extending its arms nine miles along the Ohio river and its tail curling up into the hills. Aside from its topographic eccentricity, Louisville is really unexceptional. Downtown is a honky tonk, straggling, punky main street, where soldiers drift in from surrounding barracks looking for action and kids hang out on the corner. This article appeared in the August 6, 1970 issue of Rosetta Stone. The issue is available in the online archive.Janis took a peek between the curtains before going on and realized it was Rosetta Stone V3 not exactly Angels Night at the Avalon Ballroom. "Shit, man, why do those country club chicks in their panty girdles always have to be sitting in the front rows? They are probably so tight they couldnt move if they wanted to," said Janis in her gin-mama voice. It took a while for the audience to get into it, but Janis was having her party, and she was just waiting for them to come over.Rosetta Stones 28 Greatest Singer of All Time: Janis Joplin"Some dance hall you got here," Janis said hand-on-hip, Bette Davis style. "You know, sometimes we go into a place and take a quick look at the hall, a quick look at the dressing rooms, and a quick look at the audience, and we say, well, if were going to have a party here, were going to have to do it ourselves ...""Try Just a Little Bit Harder," a girl shouted out as a request, and Janis yelled Rosetta Stone German back, "I beg your pardon, Im doing my part, honey."Woodstock in Photos: RS Looks Back at the Festival That Defined a Generation If things started slowly, the concert ended in a near-riot, and the rent-a-cops in their mountie hats, not sure whether they were at a concert or a demonstration, blew their cool and began driving back the kids rushing the stage with their clubs and flashlights. Meanwhile Janis was ecstatic."I permit them to dance," she yelled to a burly sergeant-at-arms, "in fact, I demand it!" And the rent-a-cap marched up and down scowling and fuming and shaking his fist at Janis in a gesture of revenge, and for a minute it looked like one of those movies about small southern towns where the good hearted rainmaker gets run out of town on the next train. But, in fact, everybody had a good time except the rent-a-cops, who couldnt figure out what role to play and ended up overacting. It all started when Janis began to get into "Try," with her jive about, "Honey, if youve had your eye on a piece of talent and that chick down the road has been Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 getting all the action, then you know what you gotta do ..." and wham! the drum kicks into the song, and Janis lays on her message: "Try a little bit harder."

Buy with aconscience and save the family farm

They performed "Mendocino County Line" from hisThe Great Divide. His third Rosetta Stone was to accompany Young on"Comes a Time" and "Sugar Mountain." But this Farm Aid seemedunusual for its lack of interaction among the principal players;Nelson and Rock skipped their own duet from Great Divide,"Last Stand in the Open Country." There was to be a "FoundingFathers" quartet performance at the 5 p.m. start of CMTsbroadcast, but it never happened. Matthews solo set ended with"All Along the Watchtower" -- which cried out for Youngs presenceto re-create the unforgettable acoustic duet they delivered at FarmAid 99 on whats now a signature tune for both. Introducing it,Matthews said, "This is a song that maybe I do too often, but Ilike it, so fuck it."Matthews began his set with a gentle "Where Are You Going,""Crush" and "Bartender," on which his sweet, pure falsetto soundedlike a Rosetta Stone V3 young castrati. He also played delicate versions of "GraceIs Gone," "Dancing Nancies," "Too Much" and the still unrecorded("but some of yall probably have it on tape") "Gravedigger."Matthews addressed the days topic by pronouncing, "Good food isgood. Bad food is bad." Later, in a Cookie-Monsterish voice, herepeated, "Eat good food."Mellencamp came out smoking a not-exactly-wholesome cigarette, and got right down to business with "Rain on the Scarecrow." Hisgreatest hits set included "Peaceful World, "Paper in Fire,""Crumblin Down" (on which he dipped violinist Miriam Sturm nearlyto the stage floor), a stripped-down "Small Town," the RobertJohnson tune "Stones in my Passway" (it could have been titled"Gravel in My Throat" for his damaged-sounding voice), and ofcourse, "Pink Houses," which featured Rosetta Stone Portuguese Appalachian folk throwbackGillian Welch in an unexpectedly funky moment.Earlier in the day, the Skynyrd-loving -- and proud of it --Drive-by Truckers played cuts from their Southern RockOpera after opening with "Sinkhole," a tune inspired by a filmabout saving a family farm. They were followed by Kenny WayneShepherd and Double Trouble, with Doyle Bramhall II on vocals.Shepherd borrowed too liberally from his spiritual fathers, StevieRay Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix, but his ability to do so makes him anatural fit with Vaughans old rhythm section.Young, wearing his usual "Stop Factory Farms" T-shirt, came outshouting, "Attention shoppers! Attention shoppers! Buy with aconscience and save the family farm." Though he interrupted hismusic frequently to tout the cause, his acoustic, organic Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 set wasstill the shows most mesmerizing.

This specialGerman release should fix that

But the shock andpleasure of this record is not in how far afield Gelbison roam Rosetta Stone insearch of transcendance: country sadness dressed in gothic stringsand Renaissance trumpet cranial-drill guitar and machine-drum hopspaced-Beatles pop. The wonder is in the liquid but eloquent waythis young quartet bundles it all together.Dave Swarbrick Swarb! The Spiders, infact, are modern, heavy-glam lads Rosetta Stone English from Austin, Texas, who rock withthe crunchy attention to detail of period scholars. The Offspring's Dexter Holland Talks Summer Tour, Hot Sauce

Punk rock institution the Offspring are currently on their first proper U.S. tour in Cheap Rosetta Stone four years, a two-month arena jaunt under the pull-no-punches banner "Shit Is Fucked Up Tour." Bucking the trend of the Internet-accelerated, blink-and-you-miss-it promotional cycles, the band has been allowing eighth album Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace to be a slow-builder: steadily releasing single after single (fourth single "Half-Truism" has been circling the Billboard Modern Rock Singles Chart) and finally touring on the album when its almost a year old. "It seems like, gosh, so many records have come that are there for a minute and theyre gone," says lead singer Dexter Holland. "Big bands too! I just felt like the way for us to do it was to let it get out there." With eyes on a follow-up album and maintaining his burgeoning Gringo Bandito hot sauce business, Holland sat down with Rosetta Stone to talk about Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 their summer tour and exactly why theyve been lugging a piano around.Have you thought about the next record? A little bit. [Producer] Bob Rock was really great to work with and he pushed us in the right way, so weve had conversations about working again. I think hes into it.Are you gonna wait another four years to release it like last time? No, that wasnt intentional. I like being a band. I honestly think we can get something out next year. Ill call it right now. New record in oh-10.Do you have any germs or ideas for it? On this tour were seeing the response to all the work we did a year Rosetta Stone Japanese ago. Were playing one of our older songs, just me on a piano "Its Gone Away." Its gone over really well. I dont know what it means yet, but that all gels together when youre thinking about the next record. Why did you guys adopt a traditional "arena show" move like a piano? Youd play 20 songs in an hour and youd just be wrecked. It was kind of just like bam-bam-bam-bam.Like just getting on a treadmill and sprinting for like an hour. Were trying to figure out how to make it a show. Pacing, imagine that! When did you come up with the name for the tour? One of the songs Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 on our record is "Stuff Is Messed Up," but its "Shit Is Fucked Up."
